,KUALA LUMPUR: After posting a weaker-than-expected performance in 1HFY21, there could be a sales boost for DRB-Hicom Bhd moving into second half of the year as the automotive sector reopens to a backlog of bookings. The automotive sector resumed operations in Aug 16 after a lockdown in 2QFY20 that negatively impacted the earnings recovery of DRB-Hicom.Over the first six months of 2021, the automotive distributor's core loss of RM185mil was significantly lower than its core loss of RM327mil in the same period in 2020.However, Kenanga Research noted that the performance was below its projected core profit of RM198mil as well as consensus' core profit estimate of RM165mil.Following this disappointment, Kenanga trimmed its FY21 core net profit estimate to RM46mil although it maintained its FY22 net profit of RM337mil."For the immediate term, we expect the lockdown to continue weighing on services segments, while Automotive is set for stronger sales post-16th August 2021, while we maintain the FY22E net profit on post-pandemic recovery," it said.It reiterated its "outperform" recommendation and sum-of-parts-derived target price of RM2.20 implying a price-earnings ratio of 13x on FY22 earnings per share.Moving forward, Kenanga expects Proton and Honda to continue recording stronger growth post-lockdown with a sufficient supply of inventory to counter the global chip shortage. It added that the group's marques during the sales tax exemption period are expected to boost their sales performance by featuring new or revised models.Pos Malaysia's ongoing transformation meanwhile will augment the improved tariff rates and growing demand for ecommerce.Other businesses in the group will continue to adapt to the “new normal” environment to ensure financial sustainability, against the backdrop of changes in consumer behaviour, said Kenanga.
